Description
What I am offering here should not exist. It was made well over 100 years ago and has a paper label that should not have survived this long especially in 90 % condition. This was produced for the George Magnus Ryrie Wholesale Grocers located in Alton, Ill. on West Broadway. George was U.S. born in 1864 from Scottish parents. His father and uncle were both Grocers. In about 1890 he started his Wholesale Grocery business to supply his fathers as well as other Grocers in the Alton area. He died in 1915 form at the time a unknown cause. There is no record (THAT I COULD FIND) about his use of the PIASA brand other than his knowledge and fondness of the local Alton Piasa Bird Indian legend painted on the Bluffs just North of Alton, Ill. Painting is still there on the Limestone Bluffs and many local business still us the Piasa Bird as a business name. I have lived very close to Alton all my life and know several Piasa Bird item collectors and none of them has ever seen can goods advertising the Piasa Bird. The unbelievable thing about it is nothing like it has ever showed up before (THAT I CAN FIND) and the superb condition of this piece. The label is in super condition with bright bold colors and very few little tears none in important areas. The can measures 4 5/8" X 4". It has no dents but there is one slight push in up at the side where it meets the lid. It is not visible just looking at it. This is a VERY RARE item and could be one of a kind and the label is BEAUTIFUL!!!! The shipping is .00.
